I still remember the first time I saw a colleague at work using a Kindle. I was amazed by the technology a screen that looked like paper! When they let me borrow it for a couple of hours, I was instantly hooked. I bought one soon after, and since then, the rest is history.
I read more now than I ever did before. Part of the joy is being able to adjust the text size to whatever feels comfortable, and part is the sheer convenience of carrying my entire library with me wherever I go. There’s something wonderfully simple about opening an e-ink device and being able to pick up exactly where you left off, without distraction or glare.
Unlike LCD or OLED screens, e-ink displays don’t shine light directly into your eyes. They work by reflecting ambient light, just like paper. When you turn on the built-in front-light, it gently illuminates the screen from the sides, not from behind, its a subtle difference that makes hours of reading much more comfortable. There’s less blue light, less flicker, and far less eye fatigue, especially at night.
And now, with colour e-ink devices, comics, notes, and even everyday apps have started to come alive in a way that still feels calm and natural. You get all the advantages of modern tablets, but without the harsh glare or eye strain that usually come with them.
For me, e-ink has quietly changed how I read and work. It’s a reminder that good technology doesn’t always have to be dazzling sometimes it’s at its best when it simply gets out of the way and lets you enjoy the words on the page.
